-
Beginner riding lessons are private or semi private. Lessons start with grooming, tacking, and basic horse care. On the horse we focus on a good seat and leg, balance, and riding fundamentals. I teach both Western and English riding.
-
Intermediate riding lessons are private or in a group. I offer beginning jumping as well as basic dressage instruction. We also work in western patterns and some working equitation obstacles.
-
Spring break and summer break camps! Camps are a longer day and include both riding and non-riding activities.
-
Designed for kids ages 4-6, these 30 min Pony Rides include time for grooming and riding. We are focused on balance and horse fun without stress of too many rules.
About Us
There's a moment when a rider really connects with a horse, that moment is why I do this.
I'm Kristina Descalzo, and I've spent more than 25 years learning from horses of every breed and discipline, as well as teaching riders of every age how to do the same. KD Horsemanship is my small, hands-on lesson and camp program in Nampa, offering everything from private lessons and summer camps to fairy pony rides for the littlest horse lovers.
Small is on purpose. It means I actually know my students, I know my horses, and I know which pairings will click. Nobody gets lost in the crowd.
Every lesson is built around the individual rider including their goals, their pace, and what's going to help them grow next. I teach both English and Western, and I meet each student wherever they are, whether that's a very first time near a horse or a hundredth time in the saddle. My approach is simple: I don't just want my students to ride a horse, I want them to understand one. That means learning the reasoning behind every cue and choice, so the skills stick and keep building long after the lesson ends. And we have a lot of fun getting there, so expect games, laughter, and the occasional walk-speed relay race!
The real teachers here are horses like Indy, my 28-year-old Morgan who's been with me since he was two, and Tiki, our 25-year-old pony. I just translate.
Whether it's your little one's first pony ride, a week of summer camp, or a long-overdue horse riding comeback, the barn door is open.
